Intro To Music Posts

I think the format for this is going to be a little odd, but I want to eventually combine all of my different types of posts into one podcast, at some point. For now, just imagine I'm not really bad at organizing everything.

Now, on to some new music from the year. Once I start getting into a more regular pattern, the new stuff will be more contained to that week or month, depending on how often I create posts. As of now, I'm going to talk about music I found this year. Some might be from before 2018, but I found some interesting stuff this year and would like to share. For those who know me, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that I will be starting with Jeff Rosenstock. Moving into my new town home last year, I missed out on the opportunity to see a few concerts that I was excited for. This show was not really top of my list. I was looking into see a local band that I had found and thought about going because it was cheap and nearby. I decided to take a look at the headlining band, Jeff Rosenstock, on YouTube before making a decision. Honestly, my depression and anxiety won out and I ended up spending the next hour or so listening to his music and groups like him. Not going to that show is one of my biggest regrets of last year, which sounds sort of stupid, but he has become one of my favorite artists and I still haven't found an opportunity to see him. Getting more specifically into music from this year, I can still talk about Jeff. He released his newest album POST, right at the start of the year on January 1st. Keeping in line with what some of what I wanted to do this year, I was going to Seattle in a few days to explore and see if I would like it enough out there to move. Coming down at the start of the year, in an airplane, to a place I had imagined visiting for years, while listening to the album in its entirety, for the first time was amazing. His music is simple and lyrically soothing, even though he has a rough edge to his voice and guitar. Jeff Rosenstock is an artist that I really hope to see a response about if anyone reads this blog. I'd love to hear people's first reaction and how they feel once they can sit down and really get into his catalog of music.

Ok, I definitely made a full paragraph just about Jeff Rosenstock, now lets get into some quickfire songs from the year.
  • Savior - Iggy Azalea feat Quavo song
  • We Fight - Dashboard Confessional song
  • Havana - Camila Cabello song
  • The Deconstruction - Eels song/album (I just found out about this one today actually. I have only listened to the albums title track, but if it stays on par with that, it's gonna be an amazing album.)
  • Walk on Water - Thirty Seconds To Mars song
  • What I Need - Hayley Kiyoko feat Kehlani song
  • Love the Way It Hurts (So Good) - Keith Urban song
  • Crush - Tessa Violet song
Those are some songs that I wasn't necessarily looking for, but stumbled onto this year. I would for sure put the new Chromeo album, Head Over Heels into my top 3 for the year so far. The album has a great selection of songs all the way through. I also can very gladly say that a lot of the tracks make for a great live show, as I saw them a few days ago. None of the songs that they played seemed out of place at a live show even though their style seems like something odd to perform. The Front Bottoms gave us a new album towards the end of 2017 and when they announced their tour, I grabbed up some tickets to their show quickly. Their show is coming up on Friday and will probably have something to say about it soon. On top of a tour and album, we received Ann! This one kind of came out of nowhere to me. I wasn't searching for anything new because they had just given us new music and I had assumed that was going to be a majority of the tour. My excitement can barely be contained for Friday. They have announced that they will be performing two sets throughout the tour. The first consisting of two of their EPs, Rose, and Ann. Second is going to be their new album, Going Grey. If you have never listened to The Front Bottoms, I'd recommend going through Rose and Ann. It gives a very good idea of their sound while giving you some of their old music rerecorded as well as some new tracks. Lonely Eyes is a track that was from a very early on album that got a smoothed out rework on the new EP and is one of my personal favorites.

I've fallen off with Five Finger Death Punch, but they put out a version of The Offspring's track Gone Away, which has always been one of my favorites of theirs. It sounds a bit more like what you would expect from the song. Speaking of, apparently The Offspring have an album planned for sometime this year, so that should be exciting. They are going on tour soon and I might be looking to travel for a show in August. At some point I'd like to make these longer and go a lot more in depth, but to be honest I need to try and keep this someone shorter just to not ramble, which I obviously do too much. Stay tuned for an update about The Front Bottoms concert and I might just go over concerts I've seen in the past, to fill a page.
